Suah Im, KR
lives and works / lebt und arbeitet
in Berlin, Stuttgart

Suah Im (*1988, South Korea) studied media art at the Berlin University of the Arts and fine arts at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design. She has received several scholarships and awards.

In her search for the origin of the self, Suah Im draws on her experience of intercultural exchange and her knowledge of traditional mythologies, in particular the concepts and principles of Daoism. Hereby she reflects and reconstructs her concept of identity, which is exposed to the constant process of confrontations with boundaries and constraining forces, transformations and adaptations as well as overcoming boundaries. The artist from South Korea sets her introspective investigation in motion through the use of multimedia strategies.

To illustrate her reflection on dynamic interactions between beings under the interplay of diverse forces, the resilience and transformations of beings, the resulting emergence of diversity and its acceptance, Suah Im merges traditional and modern approaches in her installations, drawings, performances and videos, integrating technology-driven elements, including coding.
